More About Me
What would be your dream job and how did EMS put you closer to this goal?
My dream job is to be a college professor or work at a research lab. This summer I got the opportunity to intern at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, CA, which I heard about in a newsletter from my department. I believe the letters of recommendation that I got from faculty in our department and the skills I gained from the diverse course offerings in the college set me up for success at this internship and for graduate school.
What student organizations and activities are you involved in?
I’m involved in the Penn State Campus Weather Service, the largest and oldest student-run forecasting organization in the nation.
What is the one Penn State activity that everyone should participate in, and why?
Everyone should participate in THON in some capacity. Penn State THON is the largest and oldest student run philanthropy in the world, and it raises money and provides emotional support for families impacted by pediatric cancer. At THON 2023, we raised over $15 million For The Kids!
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students?
You should decide to go to college somewhere that feels like home. The easiest thing to forget when looking for colleges is that you’ll be committing yourself to live somewhere for 4+ years. Penn State feels like home to me, and that’s my favorite part about going here.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in college so far?
I’ve learned that if you are interested in something, even a little bit, you need to take the jump and see if it’s right for you. I applied for my internship not thinking too much about if I would like it or not, decided to go because I had never had an experience like it before, and ended up shifting my career and educational goals as a result. It was the biggest chance I’ve taken and has resulted in one of the best experiences of my life.
